Don Conlin

It was with great sadness that we heard of Don Conlin's recent death. Don had worked for many years for the Appletree Point Association, and had been a great force for improvement. We will miss his input and expertise.

Here is the obituary from the Burlington Free Press:

03/15/2007 DONALD B. CONLIN BURLINGTON — Donald Brady Conlin of Burlington passed away Feb. 21, 2007.
He was born Oct. 21, 1929, the son of Dorothy Brady and Bernard J. Conlin, raised in New Jersey, attended public school, Emerson, Taft, and graduated from Cornell, where he was on the ski team.

After military service, Don followed his father into the cotton business and began his own remarkable career covering the next 50 years. He became a member of the New York Cotton Exchange in August 1954. Don was elected Chairman of the New York Cotton Exchange several times, holding the Chairmanship more than any other member. He participated in many trade delegations for NYBOT's New York Cotton Exchange and other cotton groups, including over 50 Cotton Council International trade missions, to countries worldwide for many years as Chairman and Chairman Emeritus. He was loved and respected by all who knew him in the “cotton world.”

Don and Anne Straiton were married in 1957. Don had countless friends everywhere, sharing memorable and fun times with them and was always there to support them. He was very strong mentally and physically and loved all animals and birds. He enjoyed flying airplanes. He once flew a small twin engine plane from New York to England. Don was passionate about golf, skiing, and sailing with friends and Anne. Don lived life to its fullest every day.

Survivors include his wife, Anne, brotherin-law and wife, Deane and Helen Straiton, nieces, a nephew, grandniece and grandnephew, and cousins. Also his beloved dog, Susi, and horse Feather Dancer. Heartfelt thanks from Anne to the doctors and staff of FAHC and to Dr. Jeffrey Rubman for their compassionate and expert care. A memorial service in honor of Don was held by NYBOT's New York Cotton Exchange on March 6 in New York City. A local service will be held later at the convenience of the family.
