Minutes: 2008 Annual Meeting

Appletree Point Shoreowners Association Meeting
President Jeff Haig’s House
June 21, 2008

Rolfe Eastman gave us a historical perspective for the benefit of all of the members present. 50 years ago money was collected from everyone because Appletree Point Road was not paved. Money was collected for issues that affected all of the members especially concerning the dirt road. The association began separating the dues when the “beach people” started having excessive weed problems. Dues were established to buy a tractor by the people living on the beach. The other third of the people living on the road would pay funds separately.

The Treasurer’s report was read by Chris Campbell
Beach people-$650.
Road-$900. (Spent $1300)
Tractor expenses for 2007- $775. (Rent, insurance and space to house it)
Present balance is $8266.72

Discussion followed about the tractor. It is a Massey Ferguson-Canadian tractor. It has not been needed much in the past few years. If sold its value might pay for occasional use. New development might precipitate increased use. A motion was made by Eric Campbell to let the tractor committee seek information on whether to keep or sell the tractor. The motion was seconded by Kit Ardell. Information should be gathered on the tractor’s value by July 14th. The money for the sale would go to the beach fund to be designated for further beach maintenance.

Discussion followed on the work needed to maintain the dirt road (bobcat and gravel). The cost would be $1300 for the road and $775 for the cost of the tractor (beach group) totaling $2075. for annual expenses. The beach people would continue paying $50 and the road people would see an increase from $100 to $110.

Why have $8000 in the budget? A motion was made by Eric Campbell and seconded by Marc Plante to keep the same dues as last year and draw down the excess proportionately from the treasury. The motion was amended by Chris Campbell to assess the road people $125 and keep the beach people at $50. New motion by Eric Miller seconded by Rolfe Eastman would be for the association dues for next year to be zero.

Eric Miller left the room to excuse himself from possible discussion on the Wick Property development. Our association would need to pay for a lawyer. etc. which would affect our balance. Eric’s presence would compromise his position on the Burlington development Review Board. Discussion followed and we decided not to go before any development or review boards as representatives of our association.
We have a historical society. This group is collecting data, pictures and information on the history of this area. People should share this information with our association. Ann Conlin is one of the members and would like more information. We also can send information to the Appletree Shoreowners Asociation Blog site.

We discussed having another association social gathering this summer. Nancy Furlong offered her house. A date and time will be set for this summer.

A motion was made by Eric Miller and seconded by Ann Conlin to re-nominate the present board.
